Stone Built Home in Bradfield Dale

October 24th, 2010

Having received planning permission from the Peak National Park, a building control application has been submitted to Sheffield City Council. A detached stone built house is planned.

Peak Park have placed strict conditions on the property like the use of national stone from the local area for the walls and roof. The style of the windows have been carefully controlled and the allowable height of the finished property has been specified.

As you can see the front of the property will enjoy spectacular views across the Bradfield Dale. I will post photographs as this interesting project progresses.

Totley Dormer Conversion, Sheffield

September 21st, 2010

This is a dormer loft conversion in Totley where I obtained planning permission to raise the roof line to give the much needed headroom.

This is often difficult, but careful design has changed the appearance very little from the front, which is a key issue.

Birley Loft Conversion in Sheffield

August 1st, 2010

Planning permission has been obtained to convert this hip roof to a gable with a rear dormer to form an en-suite bedroom.

Additinal headroom has been achieved without raising the ridge, which the planners would not have allowed. This has been done by stripping out all the first floor ceilings which were generous in height and putting the new second floor at a lower level.

The steels can be seen in place and the gable has started to be constructed.

The gable conversion is now complete, with the dormer formed to the rear.

The scaffold will be taken down now and further photographs will be shown of the development, including the interior.

Swallownest Loft Conversion

August 1st, 2010

This property is undergoing a loft conversion where the existing hip roof is being changed to a gable with the new dormer side formed as part of the gable construction. We were able to change from a hip to a gable even though the other side remains a hip style because planning permission was not needed as the total volume was under 50 cubic metres.

Having stripped out the existing loft it was discovered that the chimney breasts in the house had been removed but the stack at roof level had not been properly supported. It can be seen that only timber wedges have been used, a new piece of steel has now been designed to comply with current building control.

Nether Edge Two Storey Side Extension, Sheffield

We are now up to first floor level on this 2 storey side extension in Nether Edge, the first floor joists are being lifted in to place and carefully measured to ensure they are evenly centred.

The roof is now on and the loft conversion part of the project has started.

Swallownest Two Storey Extension, Sheffield

August 1st, 2010

Having obtained planning permission and building control approval, work will start in a couple of weeks to remove the existing porch and construct a new 2 storey front extension. This will form a larger ground floor porch incorporating a WC and create a much needed bigger family bathroom.

The extension is coming on nicely. The small dormer, which was the subject of considerable planning scrutiny, is now formed.

The windows and doors will soon be fitted to allow the scaffold to come down.
