Our Five Favourite Home Improvement Shows That You Can Binge Watch Now

If you're planning an extension or even just some internal alterations, home improvement shows are a good place to start to give you some initial ideas that we can then turn in to floor plans and elevations for you.

Here are our top five home improvement shows available to stream now to get you started:

Grand Designs (Channel 4)

Need inspiration for your extension or new build? Look no further. Although many of the projects on Grand Designs run up costs closer to a million pounds, there’s still inspiration to be found for smaller projects.

George Clarke’s Old House New Home (Channel 4)

Unlike Grand Designs, most of the projects in Old House New Home are achievable on a modest budget.

Sometimes all that’s needed is a couple of internal alterations, but some of the projects on the show take months to get planning permission or include large extensions (that show how you can still keep the character of the existing property).

We love this series because it demonstrates how handy your 2D plans are - sketching over your floor plans and elevations can really help you visualise ways to improve your home and use your new extension.

Homes Under The Hammer (BBC)

If you’re looking for inspiration and guidance on buying a house at auction, Homes Under The Hammer should be on your watch list.

Some buyers don’t always get it right - buying a property at auction without even viewing it! - but others do and you can pick up some great tips for buying, renovating and whether to let or sell your fixer upper.

Kirsty & Phil’s Like It or List It (Channel 4)

Undecided on whether to move or stay where you are?

You may love your current home, but you feel like you’ve not got enough space or there are certain things you wish you could change that you can only fix by moving.

Even though it doesn’t always work out, Kirsty and Phil show how simple internal changes can completely transform your home and make those ideas of moving a thing of the past.

Amazing Interiors (Netflix)

Never judge a book by its cover. Amazing Interiors proves this old saying to be true. This show is - as you probably guessed - all about interior design, it’s a great source of ideas for your finished extension, loft conversion or even annex.
