Maximizing Space: Transforming an Undersized Garage into a Functional Extension
Maximizing Space: Transforming an Undersized Garage into a Functional Extension
As modern cars continue to grow in size, many homeowners find that their garages—especially those in newer builds—are simply too small to accommodate a vehicle. Instead, these spaces often become cluttered storage areas, wasting valuable square footage that could be put to much better use.
We have seen a growing demand for garage conversions, transforming these underutilized spaces into games rooms, home offices, utility rooms, WC facilities, and even additional bedrooms. In some cases, clients choose to replace an old, dilapidated garage with a single or, creating even more functional living space. two-storey side extension
The Project
For this client, the existing garage was too small to be practical and anyway they had parking spaces in front of the property, although the available width for an extension was limited, with careful planning, we designed a two-storey side extension that not only created an additional ground-floor room with a velux window over the new open plan kitchen/living space, but also transformed the property into a four-bedroom home with a larger, modern family bathroom.
The Outcome
The extension has significantly improved the home’s functionality, lifestyle appeal, and market value. The new space blends seamlessly with the existing property, enhancing kerb appeal while still allowing for two parking spaces at the front of the house.
This project is a perfect example of how smart design can unlock hidden potential, turning an underused garage into a highly valuable living space that better suits the needs of a modern family.
